Kanosuke Double Distillery is a release from the two distilleries own by the family in Kagoshima, on Japan’s southwest coast. It has been created blending single malt spirit distilled at Kanosuke distillery and whisky from malted and unmalted barley distilled at Ova’s family’s Hioki distillery. Both spirits are aged at Kanosuke.
Very expressive since the beginning, with warm orange and toasted linseed oil seeds, balanced and welcoming, velvety.
Also quite elegant, yet interesting in orange oil and toasty oak, with a finale of refreshing herbs and a minor spicy kick, probably due to the unmalted barley. Creamy.
Medium-short, clean, clearly requesting a new sip
Kanosuke Double Distillery is a very nice product, which blends the more traditional single malt with a rare single pot still whisky from Japan, getting some of the best characteristics of the two different product types. It ended up in our top 10 whisky of 2024.
