#10 – New Grove Inception 2004

COUNTRY: Mauritius
ABV (PROOF): 50% (100)
PRICE: $ 175 | € 150
TYPE: Traditional molasses rum

New Grove's oldest rum to date, aged in a mix of new French oak and ex-cognac casks for a limited edition of 960 bottles.

The nose opens with baked tropical fruit, pink peppercorn, and stewed plums, lifted by subtle floral notes from the Merisier wood. On the palate, it’s round and vibrant, merging dark berries, molasses toffee, and candied citrus with gentle spice and silky tannins. The finish is long, bringing dried fruits, cocoa husk, and a warm, wine-kissed elegance. This rum stands out for its fruity precision enriched by layered, expressive maturation.

HOW ARE THE AWARDS MADE

Among the whiskies tested in blind tastings and reviews throughout the year, those scoring the best get reselected. These products were then tried once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.

This list will be published in detail in CigarsLover Magazine issue #5 .
