The Kyoto Snake Anniversary Edition is a 2025 release from the Japanese distillery, focusing on the intense colors of Year of the Snake, this year reference in terms of Chinese Zodiac.
The entrance is balanced, yet not extremely expressive; there is a touch of warm silky texture, probably due to the grain component, and a light touch of red fruit, on red currant, not too intense. The creamy hint is not boasting, so the first-fill casks have not been too active. Some tannins are revealing the time spent in red wine, with some semi-sweet spices.
The mouthfeel is quite pleasant, again with the warm velvety sensations provided by the grain percentage, balanced by some astringency / tannic provided by the red wine casks.
Short, pleasant, with well integrated sweetness and a minor touch of red fruit.
The Kyoto Snake Anniversary Edition is a soft release, where aromas and tastes are well-integrated together and never over the surface. The tannins introduced by the Japanese red wine casks are minor, helping the grain content playing a major role. Maybe the limit of the release is the not very original or unforgettable profile.
