Eminente is a Cuban rum house created by master blender César Martí. The Gran Reserva Edition N°1 is built from 80% aguardiente, the Cuban molasses eau-de-vie, blended with light rum aged a minimum of 10 years. After the base spirits are blended, the rum spends a further three months finishing in French oak barrels, which the house states brings complexity and balance. Eminente Gran Reserva carries the Denominación de Origen Protegida (D.O.P.) "Ron de Cuba" seal.
Sherry under spirit opens the nose, with a little oak and roasted coffee bean scents. A hint of vanilla follows, and a touch of mint adds a brief, cooling lift to the aromatic picture.
Oak and honey lead on the palate, joined by a mix of spices with a peppery edge. Dried fruits follow, mainly recalling apricot, giving the mid-palate a rounded, slightly jammy character.
Medium-long. Oak and caramel persist, with a hint of pepper closing things out on a warm, spiced note.
Overall, the Eminente Gran Reserva 10 offers a balanced and round flavor profile, that is fairly wide and carries good depth. The French oak finish adds a layer of spice and roasted complexity that distinguishes it from more straightforward Cuban-style rums, making it a worthwhile choice for those exploring beyond the classic Havana Club or Santiago de Cuba house styles.
