Grégoire Hayot has been perfecting his cask aging techniques for the past two decades. L’Insolite is his masterpiece made with exceptional barrels sourced from Seguin Moreau cooperage.
On the nose it is an explosion of roasted wood and oiled leather, followed by nuances of caramelized tropical fruit, topped by an elegant vesou. The palate is light, yet full and intense: vesou, caramelized pecan nuts and toffee, with plenty of honeyed spices, nutmeg and vanilla. The finish is ripe, slightly tangy, quite intense: fresh tropical fruit, orange zest as well as crème brûlée, roasted nuts, noble wood.
96Among the rums tested in blind tastings and reviews throughout the year, those scoring the best get reselected. These products were then tried once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.
