Over the past years, Père Labat has become the epitome of high quality agricole rhum. The Insula Nox features an unconventional aging in Tennessee whiskey and champagne casks.
On the nose, it delivers rich molasses scents, together with vegetal and balsamic aromas, followed by a hint of licorice and vanilla, then wild honey. On the palate it is round and smooth: molasses and vanilla are confirmed, now enriched by tangerine, noble wood, a light peppery vein and just a touch of raisins. The finish is long and it seems unending. Pepper and toasted wood.
97Among the rums tested in blind tastings and reviews throughout the year, those scoring the best get reselected. These products were then tried once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.
