Chorlton Whisky Benrinnes 14yo is a 2022 release belonging to the UK independent bottler, with an outturn of 226 bottles.
Several interesting components are mixed in a opulent, complex nose. There are several meaty and chocolaty sherried notes, with some intense levels of oxidation. Maybe a touch of sherry flor. The spices scenario is also quite elaborated, with wood spices, mace, cloves, some more difficult to differentiate Middle-East notes. The core is chewy and deep, rich, probably provided by the wormtubes heating system.
A true bipolar whiskey, with an intense fruity component (oranges, ripe apricots, black cherries and something overripe) and some funky, metallic and oxidated notes which are somehow balancing the fruit and giving is a more decadent perspective. The chocolaty essence is given off at moments, also with a remarkable intensity. A "pulp" Speyside experience.
Medium-long, again on the bipolar fruity / metallic mix.
Chorlton Whisky Benrinnes 14yo is a very intense experience, shared between the funky metallic, oxidated core provided by the wormtubes heating system used at the distillery and a solid 10 years of aging in quality ex-bourbon barrels, which have provided a great deal of fruity notes. The sherry flavors are putting things together in an excellent symphony. A very enjoyable product, with a solid ABV, designed with the perfect objective of increasing once more the experience.
