Goalong 5yo Single Malt is a release from the distillery of the Hunan region in the south-central China. Thanks to the strong temperature variations in this region, the exchange between the whiskey and the wood of the ex-bourbon barrels is favored and accelerates the aging, bringing complex notes from the first years of maturation.
Very gentle, with a unique floral, perfumery style, among jasmine, rose and lemon flowers. A minor drop of lemon, a sweet one. Maybe some lychees.
Quite watery, simple yet not unpleasant. A minor lemon hint on top of a very light body, again reminding of lychees.
Very short, again flowery and with a subtle sweetness. Really different from traditional whiskeys.
Goalong 5yo Single Malt is a truly unique product. One can expect a very rough, immediate and bold, unrefined product, and the final product could not be more different. The spirit is very light and with a not so simple sweetness, flowery, with hints of lemon and lychees. It is in the end difficult to consider this a true whisky in terms of aromas and tastes, yet there are several elements to be considered as nice attempt to find a specific way forward for the Chinese whisky.
