Lying nearly 900 meters in the Japanese Alps, Mars is Japan's highest whiskey distillery. The “Dandelion Flower” is the third release in the “Nature of Shinshu” series, inspired by the beautiful surroundings of Nagano Prefecture. In this case, the precious 20-year-old whiskey from sherry casks is blended with younger whiskey matured in former American white oak bourbon casks.
Sweet and fresh, it releases balsamic hints of menthol, followed by vegetal notes. White pepper and citrus fruits are also perceptible (lemon peel stands out). Finally, a touch of cocoa is outlined. Very intense.
On the palate it is elegant and structured. Aromatically, notes of cocoa and wood emerge, with a hint of coffee in the background, soon followed by vegetal hints.
The persistence is medium to long. Notes of white pepper and wood develop, followed by vegetal hints.
Overall, Mars Komagatake Shinanotanpopo is an intense whiskey. The nose stands out more, and is well-performing, deep and structured. A great Japanese whiskey. This product was awarded the 9th best whiskey in 2019 .
