Mars The Y.A. #04 is a 2025 release from the Japanese distillery. As for previous releases, it is made from malt whiskeys from Komagatake and Tsunuki distilleries of the Shuzu Hombo group, aged in the Mars Yakushima Aging Cellar on the island.
Compared to previous releases, this is more peated; the sensations provided are of herbal, light and gentle peat, which is adding a quality buff of smoke on top of a solid fruity core with baked apples, peaches and general stone fruit. The integration of the two dimensions seems very well crafted.
Here the peat has the capability of being less invasive, to leave the scenario to primary stone fruit tastes of velvety quality. Vanilla and semi-sweet spices are also added. Only in the second part of the palate a touch of smoke reminds about the two dimensions of the spirit.
The gentle peat come back here, leaving a nice, light cigar-like aftertaste, after yellow fruit compote main core.
Mars The Y.A. #04 is definitely a more peated release when compared to the previous releases, a very successful exercise on how to continue a series of high quality fruity spirits mixing two very lively and well integrated souls. It was recognized as the fourth-best whisky of 2025 by CigarsLover Magazine.
