Timah Double Peated Blended Whisky is produced by Winepak Intl, one of the pioneers in beverage production in the early 1980s. They are responsible for the contract manufacturing and bottling of Johnnie Walker and Old Smuggler in the region, as well as other spirits. The face on the label is Tristram Charles Sawyer Speedy, “Captain Speedy.” He was a son of a British officer and was a famous explorer during the 19th century. Timah credits him for being one of the few to introduce whisky to Malaysia. It consists of a blend of two imported aged peated malts and a neutral spirit of Malaysian origin. These components are blended by a master blender, resulting in the the Timah blend.
Very subtle peat notes, gently iodine and herbal. Some major citrus character is evident, yet sweet and mellow. Candied ginger, sweet lemon.
Still sweet, with some medicinal and herbal components to the peat character. Some remembering of an Islay malt, maybe at low ABV and with some sweet hints. Bonfire smoke with lemons and some grassy notes.
Clean, not very long-lasting, yet pleasant.
Timah Double Peated Blended Whisky is not an unpleasant product. It seems the imported malts have been treated respectfully by the addition of Malaysian spirit, keeping the bonfire, leman peel, herbal character of a sweet, 40% ABV Caol Ila of 8-10 years of aging.
