White Heather 15yo is a blended scotch whisky, created by the master capabilities of Billy Walker. In the '60s this blend was sold with 5, 8 and 15 years of aging, and was featuring mainly spirit from Aberlour distillery. It has more recently being revamped by Billy Walker using mainly distillate from GlenAllachie in addition to some percentage of Islay peated spirit. The aging is quite long and featuring a complex array of casks.
There is definitely some sherried influence here: strawberry, dried cherries, prunes. The fruit is sometimes moving into ripe yellow ones, apple and peaches. Sweetness is very much under control. The result is rather dry and nutty, with some woody remembering. Elegant, with a very minor smoke component, truly not an invasive one.
The exact continuation of the nose, especially for the two-sided red and yellow fruit impressions. It features a nice and complete sip, with nicely chosen ABV, still on the dry side but quite pleasant. Rounded, with spices coming out after some time, cloves and cinnamon.
Medium duration, still on the spicy side yet not piquant, rather complex and balanced. Almost balsamic at times.
White Heather 15yo is a very pleasant product, which may have obtained the very best from aging in a rather complex combination of casks. The result features different notes of fruit, both red and ripe yellow, which are competing in a nice, integrated product. The finish is even more interesting, with semi-sweet spices coming along empowered, yet not overwhelming. The ABV seems well chosen.
