The GlenAllachie Distillery has launched the fourth edition of its Sinteis Series: a 2015 Mongolian Virgin Oak, Pedro Ximénez & Oloroso Sherry Cask Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky. This 10-year-old limited edition is the first Scotch whisky matured in Mongolian virgin oak, showcasing the distillery’s unique approach to wood mastery.
Named ‘Sinteis’ (Scottish Gaelic for ‘synthesis’), this edition initially matured in bourbon barrels. The whisky then aged in separate Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks before being combined and finished in rare Mongolian virgin oak casks. Mongolian virgin oak is challenging to source.
Master Distiller Billy Walker noted the challenges of working with Mongolian virgin oak but expressed pride in the final product, bottled at cask strength of 58.5% without chill filtration. Each limited-edition release is distinct, featuring bespoke packaging inspired by Quercus Mongolica.
The GlenAllachie Sinteis Part IV is available for £75.99 from the distillery and online, with global availability expected in the upcoming weeks.
