Laphroaig Brodir Port Wood Finish

Laphroaig Brodir Port Wood Finish is a Scottish whisky that was initially sold as an exclusive edition for travel retail. The term “Brodir”, in Old Norse, means “Brother”. For this bottling, an aging in ex-Bourbon barrels was chosen, before being finished in barrels that previously contained Porto Ruby. It is a NAS, or a No Age Statement. The version of this review is from the batch 001.

TASTING NOTES – LAPHROAIG BRODIR

Nose

A mix of peat and red fruit is immediately present, in which peat dominates. Then notes of wood and an intense vein of malt. Lastly, spices are revealed, together with nuances of balsamic herbs.

Palate

Peat and red fruit are confirmed, with the peat being the main flavor. Wood follows, now enriched with leather and a major smoky note. There is also a marine hint present. Mineral nuances.

Finish

Medium-short. Peat and wood spice, with a hint of mineral.

Overall, the Laphroaig Brodir Port Wood Finish is endowed with a pronounced flavor intensity, also thanks to the ABV. In terms of depth and structure, this product shows all the limits of a young spirit, and the same also applies to the finish, which is not particularly prolonged. That said, the mix of peat and red fruit, due to the finish in ex-Port barrels, is pleasant, although it is not a particularly suitable combination. All in all, an appreciable whisky, that is easy to drink.
