Kavalan Launches Triple Sherry Cask

Kavalan Distillery in Yilan County, has launched it’s Triple Sherry Cask release. This Single Malt Whisky is a rare combination of Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez (PX) and Moscatel-aged casks. Pedro Ximénez is known as the “King of sweet sherry,” and Moscatel is “the Queen of sweet sherry.” From the Kavalan press release, CEO Mr. YT Lee stated: “This is the first time we’ve combined our whisky in three different sherry casks. It’s all about multiplying and enriching the sherry flavors to make a distinct whisky.”

After the whisky has fully matured in the three different style casks, all the whisky is then moved to the marrying vats. There the whiskies will combine into the final bottled product. Kavalan says the use of the three different casks gives the whisky a “velvety texture and signature sweetness.” Also from the official press release, Senior Blender Zerose Yang said: “During this process, the flavors collide through a myriad combination of the three sherry cask whiskies, creating up to 9 distinct sherry dimensions. With its main character the dried fruits of the Oloroso cask, Triple Sherry is embellished with the sweetness of PX and Moscatel casks.”

The packaging design has a fluid painting intertwined with white, gold, and red colors. Kavalan says the coloring symbolizes the multilayered and smooth taste of triple sherry cask whisky. Also it presents the combination of the color of new make, whisky and sherry wine. Underscored on the tin capsule is a double silver line, symbolizing the Central Mountain and Snow Mountain ranges surrounding Kavalan Distillery.

The Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask is bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). The 700ml size bottle has an MSRP of $82 per bottle (NT $2300). Kavalan Triple Sherry will first be available in France, Canada, Japan, Singapore, China, Australia, New Zealand and Guam.
