Limited-edition blended Scotch whisky, released as the first of the Extinct Blends Quartet. The recipe includes malts from Caol Ila and Glendullan and grain whiskies from Girvan and Cameronbridge, along with pre-blended whiskies from the Compass Box stocks.
A hint of mineral and earthy smoke over a fruity background of baked apples and sweet lemon. Vanilla and a good amount of toffee are also present, with a sophisticated oakiness. The palate is salty and smoky at the beginning, leaving later space to dark chocolate, with a long finish, the latter reconnecting to the barbecue smoke with a generous amount of spices. The overall effect is complex and pleasant, reminding us what a careful blend can be in terms of symphony of flavor layers.
96Among the whiskies tested in blind tastings and reviews throughout the year, those scoring the best get reselected. These products were then tried once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof). The test results are then compared, and the TOP 10 is made.
