Meikle Toir The Turbo is a release from 2024 which is using spirit distilled at the Glenallachie distillery under the super vision of revered Master Distiller Billy Walker. This release is said to incorporate the spirit cut which contains the highest phenol content (70 ppm vs 35 ppm of The Original and of the Sherry One).
Complex and balanced, a very nice nose. There is a dark dimension of red/black fruit (blackberries, plums, juicy raisins) covered in dark chocolate, on top of which the peat dimension is delivered at its very best, intense, roasted, oaky, yet semi-sweet and varied. At moments it is a little drier, such as hazelnuts and raisins very dark chocolate bars.
Here the high phenolic content is releasing all its bomb, yet there is still some level of balance and the nature of the peat is not changed in essence, still sweet and nuanced, woody. Chocolate is also present and protagonist, while the fruity side is moved to the background. Some intense coffee.
Medium-long, again on dark chocolate and Italian coffee, with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Meikle Toir The Turbo is a very interesting powerful variation of the Original and of the Sherry One. It is not as vivid as the Original, and maybe it loses a little in terns of coherence with the mission, but at the same time it is lighter and more agile than the Sherry One, a true winter dram. Moreover, the intensity of the peat makes the nose a true nice experience, very intense yet balanced. The palate, on the contrary, delivers all the expected phenolic power, which prevents the spirit from reaching a higher vote.
