Kilchoman Sanaig is a core range products from the Islay Scottish distillery. It is named after an inlet on Islay’s rugged Atlantic coast.
Indeed very peated, yet balanced and enjoyable. The immediate sensation is of a young, distinctive Islay Scotch. Bonfire, embers on a coastal, marine core, with some yellow fruity side underneath (grilled pineapple). Freshly crushed coffee beans. The Oloroso contributions are dry nuts and some sticky toffee with minor sweet side. Very solid.
Dark chocolate, relatively bitter, is the first impression, with again embers and dark, burnt caramel. The fruity dimension is less tropical here and more red/yellow, with some juice. Black pepper, quite evident.
Medium-long, again enjoyable.
Kilchoman Sanaig is overall a very nice integration of peat and Oloroso sherried casks, with a solid quality, marine peat and a fruity core, signs of quality spirit. The higher percentage of Oloroso casks aged spirit contributed with dark chocolate, nuts, and a drier profile which is still very enjoyable.
