Benriach announced Malting Season And Smoke Season

Benriach has announced the US debut of two expressions of their whiskies: Malting Season And Smoke Season

  • Malting Season – first edition produced entirely from barley malted from the distillery’s floor maltings. The type of barley used is the “concerto”. The barley changes every year, as well as the ABV. They depend on the choice made by Master Blender Rachel Barrie. The whisky is then matured in a combination of bourbon and virgin oak casks. It is bottled at 48.7% ABV (97.4 proof). “Passed from distiller to distiller throughout the generations, the floor malting process keeps a traditional part of the whisky-making process alive with Benriach being one of only seven distilleries in Scotland to continue the practice of floor malting,” said Barrie.
  • Smoke Season – peat is involved in the production of this whisky. It is matured in first-fill bourbon barrels combined with a high proportion of charred and toasted American virgin oak casks. It is bottled at 52.8% ABV.

These two bottlings will be released in limited quantities and only in select markets. Benriach Malting Season will be sold with an SRP of $148.99, Benriach Smoke Season will be sold for an SRP of $71.99.
