Darroze has been making Bas-Armagnac since 1974. The French company is family owned, in the second generation. Darroze Darroze previously only released single estate vintage armagnacs at cask strength. This 8 YO is a vatting of different Bas-Armagnacs with the youngest component being at least 8 years old.
good intensity. Prune liqueur, followed by caramel covered digestive biscuits and pine needles The base is earthy, with a little youthful edge. Feels rather close to the raw materials.
good body. More prunes, pear lemonade and honey. Then, the digestive biscuits, earth and pine notes reappear, with liquorice in the back. Good mouthfeel and freshness.
medium long. Somewhat dry, with notes of liquorice, light wood and spice.
Overall, this Darroze Grands Assemblages 8 YO is a simple and honest Bas-Armagnac. It is well made, on par with most entry-level malts.
