Mary Dowling made its debut with two bottlings: a Tequila finish and a Dobule Oak Barrel Bourbon.
The brand is named after Mary Dowling, one of the most influential female distiller in pre-prohibition bourbon era. Her legacy earned her the moniker of “Mother of Bourbon.”
Kaveh Zamanian, co-founder of Mary Dowling Whiskey Company, stated, “Long obscured by the mists of time, Mary Dowling’s story is one of the most motivational and compelling in the annals of whiskey-making. We wanted to create a whiskey to honor her extraordinary character and celebrate her legacy and her iconic distillery, Waterfill & Frazier. We are excited to finally share two original expressions, which are meant to be savored while toasting to the unstoppable spirit of Mary Dowling.”
The first of the two releases is the Tequila finish. The name of the bottling comes from the production shift to Juárez, Mexico, that Mary Dowling did during Prohibition. Made with a high-malt double malt recipe, the Kentucky bourbon was aged for 4 years in new toasted and charred Kelvin Cooperage American oak. Then, the bourbon finishes its maturation in American oak ex-tequila barrels. Is is bottled at 46.5% ABV (93 proof).
The second release is the Double Oak. It is a Kentucky straight wheated bourbon, that was first aged in a heavily-toasted and charred (char #3) American oak barrel. Then it was transferred into a lightly toasted and charred (char#1) American oak barrel to finish its maturation. It is bottled at 53.5% ABV (107 proof).
Both Mary Dowling Tequila finish and Dobule Oak are available in the US. The SRP is respectively $130 and $175.
