Four Roses Single Barrel

Four Roses Single Barrel is a release from the Lawrenceburg, Kentucky distillery which has won several awards since 2009, year of the first release. Mashbill is said to be composed of 60% Corn, 35% Rye, 5% Malted Barley, with yeasts bearing a delicate, fruity flavor. Founder Paul Jones Jr. renamed his brand following a specific event. He fell in love with a woman who he proposed to. She said she would let him know her eventual positive answer by attending an evening ball with a four rose corsage.

TASTING NOTES - FOUR ROSES SINGLE BARREL

Nose

Pear, vanilla and a balsamic component are working together to create a dense, thick structure. With time the minty component is even more evident. A very mild varnish component, nicely integrated.

Palate

Entrance is quite spicy and intense, with ripe plum and cherries, yellow orange and its essential oils (with a minor bitter note), strong vanilla presence and an oaky aftertaste, all this after the initial piquant spices calm down with time.

Finish

Long, hot and spicy, leaving on the palate persistent impressions of orange essential oil, balsamic herbs and oak.

Four Roses Single Barrel is a thick, intense whisky, centered on orange and vanilla, however with balsamic herbs as the most interesting component. A truly positive experience, with minor sacrifices of the easy to drink approach, favoring a high ABV, which pushes aromas and a quite long after taste. A satisfying after dinner drink.
