The Benriach The Smoky Twelve is crafted from a combination of unpeated and peated spirit and three cask matured for at least twelve years in bourbon barrels, sherry casks, and Marsala wine casks. The whisky from each cask is then married together.
It delivers scents of smoke, a hint of peat, orange zest, vanilla, oak and some balsamic nuances. Inviting.
Smooth. There are aromas of oak, vanilla and honey, together with the orange zest and the toasted notes perceived to the nose as well. All is enriched by intense smoky notes that are not overwhelming the rest of the flavor profile.
The persistence is medium long. Oak, smoky notes and vanilla.
Overall, the Benriach The Smoky Twelve is a smooth Scoth, easy to enjoy but at the same time boasting a fairly broad and structured flavor profile. The smoky notes are rich but they are well calibrated in order to not prevale on the rest of the aromas. Rich and fulfilling.
