Benriach Smoke Season has been release for the first time in 2021 by the Speyside distillery. It celebrates the time of year when peated spirit is distilled, and it is said to be the distillery's smokiest release.
Fresh and fruity, caressing the nose with a nice profile of creamy red apples, apricots, canned peaches. Smoke is herbal and balanced, gentle yet present and earthy. Grilled pineapple. Even the vanilla is nice and high quality. Alcohol is very well managed.
Juicy and again fruity (tangerine, pineapple, sweet lemon), with a little more powerful peat, featuring a slight kick with confirmed herbal character. Sweet spices, for a nice balance, yet a slightly more powerful palate than nose.
Medium, again nice and less peated than expected, on herbal and sweet fruity notes.
Benriach Smoke Season is a truly enjoyable release, where a slightly herbal nd earthy peat character is well married with a fruity spirit. The contribution of American virgin oak is present with buttery quality vanilla and some extra yellow fruit, but not too invasive. Alcohol is very well managed, for a very balanced sip.
