Chorlton Whisky Faemussach 21yo is a spirit from this highly appreciated independent bottler which has been distilled in 2001 in the Benriach distillery from peated barley. This ex-bourbon hogshead provided 313 bottles.
Very expressive, the perfect fusion between embers and a juicy fruity character, reminding of very ripe nectarines, a touch of pink grapefruit with very minor acidity, raspberries, bloody oranges. In the background some minor notes of dark spices and earth can be distinguished. Highly complex, yet integrated. Intense and satisfying.
Spicy entrance, immediately followed by a mellow fruit component, again with ripe peaches and oranges, over a bed of Caribbean cigar smoke of good quality. Again, a charming and long-lasting palatal experience.
Persistent and warm, almost balsamic at moments.
Chorlton Whisky Faemussach 21yo is definitely a great product. It is quite rare to find an independent peated Benriach, especially aged this extensively, but the overall sensation is of great complexity and intensity, with the smoke moving from earth to quality cigars, a rich fruity component and a balsamic hint in the finish. A great whisky from a fantastic bottler.
