Deanston 12yo 2008 Oloroso Cask Matured is a limited release from the Highland distillery.
Mixed between Oloroso sherry casks and Port pipes influence. The fruity aspect is both red and black, with cherry, strawberry, blackberry and dark plums. Sugary at moments, it alternates darker and deeper sides. Fruity gelee candies. Tannic in a sense and with some balsamic vinegar glaze hints.
The sip is pretty heavy on the winey side, with tannins showing their strong character. Intensity is good, but the influence of the wine is rather marking. Even a slightly chemical sweetness, rather artificial such as in hard fruity candies, can be found in some sips. The dark chocolate dimension is probably the best one.
Medium duration, again on wet polished oak and winey aftertaste.
Deanston 12yo 2008 Oloroso Cask Matured is a release performing relatively well on the nose, with a nice mix of red/black berries and some port-like wine character. The sip is on the contrary quite market by the wine finish, lacking some refinement and balance. A young product, which is muscular but not as silky as desirable.
