Duncan Taylor The Octave Bunnahabhain 2014 is a release from the famous brand, founded in 1938 in Glasgow, 20 Renfield Street and purchased in 1994 by Euan Shand, to come back to Scottish property after belonging for many years to an American individual from New York. Octave is the name of a special 50 l barrel, 1/8 the volume of a standard barrel; due to the important wood exposure of the whisky, it quickly gathers a lot from the wood.
Sweet smoke, glazed bacon and some animal hints. Some sensations of burnt herbs and medicinal aromas, between a Ledaig and a Laphroaig.
Quite sapid, intense, not necessarily balanced. Again on bacon with burnt herbs. Pretty ashy in the finale.
Long, dominated by the ash and an herbal contribution, burnt yet balsamic at moments.
Duncan Taylor The Octave Bunnahabhain 2014 is an intensely peated expression, whose balance is always on the edge. The ashy sensations are at moments overwhelming, making the spirit not fully capable of shining, despite some animal traits and some interesting burnt herbs hints.
