El Dorado 15 Year Old Special Reserve

El Dorado has been produced at Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) since 1992 in Guyana, the sole remaining rum producer in the country and the custodian of some of the last surviving wooden stills in the world. The 15 Year Old is a blend of aged Demerara rums, some as old as 25 years, drawn from four historic stills: the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still. The age statement on El Dorado labels represents the youngest rum in the blend.

TASTING NOTES - EL DORADO 15 YEAR OLD SPECIAL RESERVE

Nose

Fresh coconut opens the nose, followed by molasses, wood, honey and nuts. A generous and inviting aromatic picture that combines the tropical character of the Demerara base with the depth that 15 years in oak provides.

Palate

Very smooth, with caramel, wood and a touch of vanilla at the fore, alongside nuts that add a pleasant roasted depth. A touch of wood spices arrives later, providing just enough structure to balance the overall sweetness.

Finish

Medium-long persistence. Wood spices, wood and caramel linger in a clean and satisfying ending.

Overall, the El Dorado 15 Year Old Special Reserve is a rich, smooth and balanced ron. Easy to appreciate, with a sweet and harmonious flavor profile. The multi-still blend gives it a nice depth that sets it apart from single-origin expressions of similar age, and the long ageing shows clearly in the texture and integration of the whole.
