El Pasador de Oro XO is a Guatemalan aged rum, or ron, whose name translates as "the gold ferryman". The brand is owned by the French house Les Bienheureux, and the rum follows a two-country path: the base spirit is made in Guatemala from concentrated sugar cane honey, fermented with wild pineapple yeast, column-distilled and aged at altitude in white oak using a solera system, drawing on rums of roughly 8 to 15 years. The blend is then shipped to the Charente region of France, where it is finished for around six months in ex-Cognac casks before bottling.
On the nose, it opens with a clear note of nail polish, before giving way to a hint of ripe exotic fruit.
It leads with caramel, carried by notes of fine wood and a touch of wood spice. Orange marmalade rounds out the palate, which stays sweet from start to finish.
The finish shows medium persistence, closing on wood and wood spice, with touches of caramel that linger on the aftertaste.
Overall, the El Pasador de Oro XO offers a bouquet devoted to sweetness and easy to appreciate. It is round and harmonious, with a finish of good persistence.
