Glen Scotia 25yo is a core range products from the Campbeltown Scottish distillery. It won the best in show at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Classy and interesting, yet powerful and coastal. The first impressions are of leathery and organic peat, a wintery, earthy dram, of a dark, deep structure. Sensations of burnt red fruit jam. Some dark and burnt caramel.
Even richer and rounder than the nose, with an extra pinch of salt over a dark leather core. The peat moves to the animal side, while the caramel is also salted.
The finale confirms the darkness and the earthy undertones, and even traces of dark fruit such as plums and blackberries can be identified.
Glen Scotia 25yo is for sure a great dram, rich and deep. Aromas are earthy and leathery, and the coastal side is very well preserved. There is always a certain dichotomy in the coastal and deeply dark fruit-oriented whiskeys, which are sometimes controversial to comment. It is always difficult not to take into account the very high price point while analyzing such a whiskey.
