Glen Moray Sherry Cask Finish is one of the official bottlings from the Speyside distillery, featuring a traditional aging in American Oak casks, before experiencing a finish of at least eight months in Oloroso Sherry Casks sourced from Jerez, Spain.
It opens up rather intense and bold for the basic ABV, with wet sultanas and strawberry jam, a warm oak wood character and a bloody orange counterpart. Milk chocolate. Some minor balsamic notes. Interesting, difficult to separate, yet nice.
Hot and tasty from the beginning, with balsamic notes backed up by a solid sweet/salty mix of spices. Juicy and long-lasting, with the orange note even more protagonist, followed by butterscotch.
Medium to long, reasonably well crafted and balanced.
Glen Moray Sherry Cask Finish is overall a very interesting value whisky, with balsamic notes that are interleaved with a good mix of spices in a balanced, tasty profile, which can be enjoyed all year long. A good dram, with reasonable complexity and a nice character, especially considering the very entry level price.
