Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 12 is the 2023 expression of the limited release from the Highland distillery, famous for its sherry cask maturation since 1826.
Quite full since the very beginning. Despite some initial alcoholic perception, it opens up immediately with very ripe plums, juicy sultanas, chocolate ganache and deep strawberry jam. An ode to intense sherry maturation, maybe more PX than Oloroso, as the nose is not that dry.
Palate is slightly more Oloroso-driven, with a quite remarkable nuttiness and a nice character. Again very deep sherry notes are dominating, with red ripe fruit and chocolate, now between dark and nougat. Rich, very intense sip; alcohol is borderline with too high intensity.
Quite long, very enjoyable, one of the reasons of the high ABV.
Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 12 is a very nice sherried product, with a good balance between the PX and the Oloroso, the former richer at the nose, while the latter dominates the palate. ABV is risky high, and especially in the sip may create some unbalanced perceptions. However, the finish is truly long and enjoyable.
