Glengoyne 21 Years Old is a Scottish sherried whiskey that is matured in first-fill European oak sherry casks. Glengoyne Distillery was founded in 1833 in Dumgoyne, Scotland. Glengoyne is known for manufacturing in the Highlands, while aging takes place in the Lowlands.
On the nose, hints of honey, cinnamon, cocoa and apple juice are immediately perceptible. There is also a touch of raisin and, after a while, a hint of vanilla. Fresh.
On the palate it returns aromas of candied fruit, apple peel and then ripe fruit, among which plum and apricot stand out. Honeyed and enveloping.
Medium persistence. Sweet finish, with notes of orange marmalade, tea and a hint of wood.
Overall the Glengoyne 21 Years Old is a nice balanced Scottish whiskey. Soft and enveloping, it is sweet and very easy to appreciate. Considering the long ripening time, persistence is a bit disappointing.
