Glenrothes 2007-2020 13yo Carn Mor Strictly Limited is a whisky entirely aged in an ex-sherry butt of 450 l and bottled in a total of 1628 bottles for Carn Mor’s Strictly Limited series, which has already been introduced. The Speyside distillery is renowned for its ex-sherry aged bottlings and is characterized by a very particular situation: the property of the distillery is by the Edington Group, however, the brand belongs to the Berry Bros&Rudd group, which uses almost 98% of the distillate from this site for its blends, while only 2% is bottled as a single malt.
The experience, intense and uncompromising, opens with the sweet notes typical of Pedro Ximenez sherry, which are quickly flanked by raisins, dates, figs. The next phase is enriched with cocoa and a slight, drier imprint, reminiscent of wet and tannic wood, with its own spices. Full-bodied and sometimes winey.
Palate: the entrance is still intense, characterized by rich notes of plum and cocoa bean. Alcohol is well integrated, although the winey character continues to be accentuated as on the nose.
Medium long, focused on very ripe and almost dark red fruit.
Glenrothes 2007-2020 13yo Carn Mor Strictly Limited is overall a product whose flavor profile does not stand out for its depth. At times, it encroaches on the characteristics of the sherry bomb, especially concerning the vinous note and, on the nose, tannins that speak of wet wood. The palate and the finish are intense, with a well-integrated alcoholic component, but at times the lack of greater elegance, which perhaps could be given by a longer aging, can be perceived. Exuberant and at times evident in his youth.
