TASTING NOTES – HELLYERS ROAD15yo

Nose

Immediately fruity, with orange, mandarin, peach and raisins. At times the fruity side turns red, with wild strawberry and currant. Vanilla is present, even if persuasive and not blatant, almost like custard. Slight honeyed notes. Alcohol well integrated, the scents are rather smooth and harmonious, although not too intense. Refined.

Palate

More spicy than the nose. The entrance is immediately intense, almost balsamic for the way of filling the upper palate with an aromatic herbaceous note. A sweet licorice mixed with other non-pungent spices, such as cinnamon, cardamom and white pepper. Good creaminess.

Finish

Even in the finale the persistence is medium-long, more marked than what could have been expected from a refined and fruity nose. Rhubarb and cinnamon notes resonate, both almost balsamic.

Hellyers Road 15yo is a multifaceted whiskey; on the one hand the nose, reminiscent of a refined fruit pastry, with a decent variety in fruity aromas but also hints of honey and cream. On the other hand, the creamy palate and the consistent finish, both much more intense, spicy and almost balsamic, played on less sweet aromas, indeed slightly bitter but very pleasant and unexpected.
