Isautier is one of the oldest rum houses on Réunion, the French island in the Indian Ocean, founded in 1845 by brothers Louis and Charles Isautier and still family-run. Its 7 Year Old is a traditional molasses-based rum, column-distilled and aged for seven years, first in new French oak and then in used "fûts roux" casks, in the house's historic cellars in Saint-Pierre.
On the nose, ripe fruit, molasses and honey, with a hint of iodine.
On the palate, wood and molasses, with a hint of petrichor. There is a note of yellow fruit as well, recalling apple.
Medium finish, with yellow fruit and petrichor.
Overall, the Isautier 7 Year Old is delicate and balanced. The flavour profile is not among the widest or deepest, but the aromas are quite enjoyable and it is a rather easy to appreciate rum.
