Laphroaig Select is Laphroaig's entry level whiskey. It is the least expensive bottling in their portfolio and a very common product. For its production the distillery uses whiskey from different cask types, including Oloroso Sherry butts, American white oak, Pedro Ximenez casks, Quarter Cask and first fill bourbon casks.
On the nose the peaty characters are accompanied by citrus scents, mainly lemon peel, and medicinal herbs.
On the palate, peat remains the main protagonist and tends to overwhelm the rest of the aromatic profile. After a few moments in the glass, there is also a touch of medicinal herbs and a fleeting smoky character.
The persistence is medium-short. Peat continues to play the main role and, once again, tends to overshadow the other aromas.
Overall, Laphroaig Select is a rather unbalanced Scotch whiskey, due to the fact that peat tends to cover the rest of the flavor profile. However, for peat lovers, this can be a bottle of Scotch whiskey at a very reasonable price.
