The Marley Morton 10yo Islay spends ten years reaching maturity before being drawn off at a robust 52.3%. It is a deliberately genre-bending release, aimed at drinkers who enjoy peat as much as cane.
Sugarcane and smoke capture the nose together, followed by balsamic scents that recall cloves and mint.
The palate is dominated by peat and smoke, followed by oak, vanilla and peppery notes, with some varnish nuances underneath.
Medium-long, carried by peppery notes and smoke.
Overall, the Marley&Morton 10yo Islay is decidedly uncommon, resembling a whisky flavour profile more than a rum. Surprising, too: despite the high ABV it stays smooth, with nice depth and complexity. A unique bottling.
