Produced at the Bernheim Distillery of Heaven Hill, it commemorates Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square, named in 1825 after David Rittenhouse, astronomer and scientist, first director of the US mint. This expression uses a mash composed of 51% rye, 37% corn, and 12% malted barley. The whiskey is then aged for approximately four years.
To the nose the herbal balsamic components are mellow and well-integrated, sweetened by an orange character. Toffee and sweet spices, mainly cinnamon and nutmeg, are also given off, completing a true gemstone of a nose.
The rich palate confirms the flavor perceived to the nose. There are balsamic notes, orange, toffee, cinnamon and nutmeg, now enriched by oak and vanilla pod.
The persistence is intense and very long. It confirms the wide aromatic perception of the mouth and nose.
Overall, the Rittenhouse Straight Rye Bottled in Bond is an intense, yet very well-balanced product, with all the specific character of a rye whisky.
