Sakurao Sauternes Cask Finish Lightly Peated is a 2025 release from the Japanese distillery. Compared to the 2024 release, this one contains 10% of peated malt.
The aromas are relatively open and quite interesting: orange honey, orange with its peel. The Sauternes influence is once again gentle and enriching, never too intrusive. Compared to the 2024 release a minor touch of candle-style peat can be perceived, light and pleasant. A complex array of sweet spices is added to a medium, well balanced sweetness.
On the palate the intensity is very interesting, with again a warm orange, balanced by a more significative array of mixed sweet-savory spices, and a fruity core of orchard fruit. The winey hints are contributing to an overall sensation of white sangria. Alcohol is very well managed.
The medium-long, rather persistent finish allows notes of honey and ripe fruit to blossom. Nice
Sakurao Sauternes Cask Finish Lightly Peated is a very well-crafted variation of the non-peated release of 2024. This product is more centered on orange and orange honey, with a beautiful array of sweet spices. As expected, the peat hints are very minor, a candle-style refined and classy smoke. A very pleasant product.
