Scapa Skiren

In the northernmost part of Scotland we find the Scapa distillery, founded in 1885 and now owned by the Pernod Ricard group. The peculiarity of the island, in addition to its position, is the use of a Lomond type still, very unusual and scarcely used in the world of whisky nowadays. ex-Bourbon barrels of first fillings.

Tasting notes SCAPA SKIREN

Nose

rather delicate, initially light white pepper and vanilla. Pretty floral scents, brown sugar and a slight heather note, preponderant in the "old" 16 years. However, vanilla remains the main flavor.

Palate

Spices, cinnamon, paprika and white pepper, mixed with hints of vanilla and rather evident yellow fruits, apple and pear. Hints of tropical fruits and menthol.

Finish

of medium persistence. It is dry and slightly bitter. Roasted coffee beans, vanilla, white pepper and yellow fruits.

Overall, a malt that, despite a "good nose", disappoints on the palate and in the finish, too generic and lacking in complexity. It is absolutely not an inadequate product, but probably too young compared to the "old" products of Scapa (16 Years, 12 Years and the bottlings of Gordon & MacPhail).
