The Lakes Single Malt Whiskymaker's Reserve N.7 is 2023 release of the Reserve series. This series is said to be an artistic exploration of different casks and blending styles. The architecture of each release of Whiskymaker’s Reserve is intended to evolve keeping sherry casks influence as the core, yet with several explorations.
Wow, this sherried nose is one of great integration: fruit is intense and ripe, dark and sweet, with strawberries, plums, figs. Yet there are more components to it, with a dark rhubarb, orange honey, some sweet spices. The wine casks influence is just a touch. Very complex, yet vivid and almost no alcohol. A sort of distant perfumy character.
At 54% ABV this is incredibly fresh and well integrated, mellow and juicy. Dark red fruit, with herbal and winey components; this time the red wine casks prove to be more active, yet with a very nice touch. Some slightly bitter aftertaste adding complexity. A minor toffee finish.
Medium length, fresher than the two previous phases, with resounding sweet complex oriental spices and that slightly bitter components that we are starting to love, maybe here more on dark chocolate.
The Lakes Single Malt Whiskymaker's Reserve N.7 is an excellent sherried product, with a great complexity and an incredibly silent alcohol. Not a true sherry-bomb, yet a great sherry experience, a classy and tasty one.
