Wilson & Morgan Ben Nevis 10yo 2014 is a 2025 release from the famous Italian independent bottler. This bottling has been assembled from two casks: one was finished for 64 months in second fill Oloroso sherry, the other one for an identical amount of time in second fill Pedro Ximenez. The outturn has been of 777 bottles.
Quite typical Ben Nevis. There are several interesting nutty Sherried notes, with some of the funky character of the distillery of polished brass and a touch of stony minerality. It is only slightly winey. A touch of vanilla of best possible quality, with extra chocolate. It shows a higher intensity character and maybe a darker and more wintery one when compared to the 10yo core range official bottling.
The slightly higher ABV compared to the core range 10yo increases the red fruity sensations, as well as some spicy intensity. It shows again toasted and refined cereals, candied orange and marzipan. It’s slightly tannic, medium bodied, but also fresh and mineral, especially in the second palate.
Drier, spicier than expected, still wintery yet very juicy.
Wilson & Morgan Ben Nevis 10yo 2014 is overall a great independent young Ben Nevis, with the two different casks pairing very well together. The choice of bottling at slightly higher ABV adds to the intensity.
