Wilson & Morgan Clynelish 25yo is a 2022 release from the famous Italian independent bottler. The outturn was 148 bottles. This bottling was awarded Gold medal at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition.
An extremely deep first impression, based on the several nuances of the Oloroso: wet sultanas, nuts, walnut liquor, a true heaven of chocolate and orange peel. An old precious wood character is dense and chewable.
An extremely rich sip, indulging in chocolate covered nuts, sultanas, cracked walnuts, macadamia nuts, strawberry jam. A very distant bloody orange taste, adding some minor freshness. Tamarind could express well several of the notes which can be found. It is not a sherry bomb in terms of exaggerating the tastes, as it keep a remarkable balance, yet the aromas are deep and complex, refined.
Medium, shorter and cleaner than the intensity of the aromas might indicate at first glance, yet very enjoyable.
Wilson & Morgan Clynelish 25yo is definitely a great whisky, reminding of great sherried products from the past, characterized by intense winey notes, yet keeping a great balance and some levels of distant freshness helping the drinkability. The best aspects are to be found in the richness of the aromatic notes, while the only minor limit could in some ways be the importance of the finish, which marked deeply the malt inner notes.
