Worthy Park Quatre Vins

Worthy Park is a single-estate distillery in the St. Catherine parish of Jamaica, on grounds that have carried the name since 1670 and where sugar cane is still grown; the current distillery, built around a double-retort copper pot still, resumed rum production in 2005. Quatre Vins is the eighth release in the estate's Cask Selection Series, produced in collaboration with the Danish bottler 1423. Distilled in 2013 from molasses, it spent four years maturing in Jamaica in ex-bourbon American oak, then was shipped to Denmark for a further two years split across four French sweet-wine casks, ex-Monbazillac, ex-Sauternes, ex-Moscatel and ex-Jurançon, which give the release its name, French for "four wines". It was bottled in 2019 as a limited run of 1,318 bottles.

TASTING NOTES - Worthy Park Quatre Vins

Nose

It releases intense vegetal and molasses notes, followed by a mix of wood spice, cinnamon and ginger. A hint of candied fruit. After a few moments, sulphurous notes and gunpowder emerge.

Palate

Notes of seasoned wood and intense vanilla aromas. The candied fruit carries through, now joined by honeyed notes. Then cereal.

Finish

Medium-long, with notes of seasoned wood and a vegetal character. A hint of leather. Slightly dry.

Overall, the Worthy Park Quatre Vins is a rum that needs to rest a few moments in the glass to fully release its aromatic bouquet. It is particularly intense and impetuous, with a complex and varied aromatic palette. Demanding and rewarding.
