Yamazaki Refill Spanish Oak is a special refill-Spanish-oak release matured in Oloroso and Amontillado casks. Suntory is putting Spanish oak front and center again. The casks have already matured whisky at least once and are then reused. It’s bottled at 48% in a 700ml bottle, with a suggested retail price in Japan of ¥27,000 before tax.
Oloroso and Amontillado casks deliver strawberry, cherry, raspberry, red plum and ripe redcurrant. Delicate, well-integrated smoky peat adds complexity.
Spicy yet always controlled, with red fruit, light smoke and a small grain component that lends a velvety texture.
