Diageo Beverage Company has announced the release of its 2020 Distillers Edition. This collection features releases from some of the brand’s most prominent single malt distilleries. The concept with the 2020 edition is taking matured whiskies, and then fortifying the whiskey with additional wine flavors. To get these results, Diageo came up with an elaborate process. First they take bespoke barrels created with re-charred American oak bodies, and charred cask heads, made from new American oak. Those barrels are filled with the selected wine variety, and let rest for a month. The wine is then dumped from the barrels, and the selected whiskey is added to those same barrels. The whiskey rests in those wine soaked barrels for up to six months. For the 2020 Distillers Edition, they went with six different combinations. Each bottle in this years collection lists the date of distillation, bottling date, and the batch number. Each version is listed below.
Oban 2020 Distillers Edition
The Oban bottling is made with a 14 year old whiskey. The wine it was paired with is a Montilla Fino. It has an MSRP of $94.99.
Talisker 2020 Distillers Edition
The Talisker is a 10 Year old whiskey. The wine chosen was Amoroso Sherry. This bottling has an MSRP of $84.99.
Lagavulin 2020 Distillers Edition
A Lagavulin 16 Year old whiskey. The wine paired with is a Pedro Ximénez Sherry. It is the most expensive with an MSRP of $109.99 per bottle.
Cragganmore 2020 Distillers Edition
This bottling is made with Cragganmore 12 Year old whiskey. The Cragganmore is paired with a Port. The bottle has an MSRP of $84.99.
Dalwhinnie 2020 Distillers Edition
The Dalwhinnie 15 Year is the oldest whiskey in the 2020 collection. The wine was an Oloroso Sherry. It has an MSRP of $84.99.
Glenkinchie 2020 Distillers Edition
The Glenkinchie edition is a 12 Year old whiskey. The wine is an Amontillado Sherry. This bottling has an MSRP of $84.99.
