Glenfarclas 25yo is a well-aged core range expression from the famous Speyside distillery, which won a gold medal at the 2019 International Spirits Challenge.
Deeply sherried, in a dry, nutty way. Dark chocolate ganache and cherry, the latter almost de-hydrated. Very minimal sweet components. Elegant, rather sophisticated.
The dry nuttiness is even more evident than on the nose. clean and pure, again elegant. Essential, in some forms of red de-hydrated fruit with distant oak and virtually no tannins. Less meaty and more refined than the 15yo.
Clean and neat, red fruit and nuts. Quite long.
Glenfarclas 25yo is a classic product, a true perfect representation of dry Oloroso sherried spirits from the Speyside. This whisky does not indulge in any sweet component, nor in any fatty, juicy very ripe red fruit. Tannins are also virtually absent, as well as winey notes. Fruit almost seems de-hydrated, only essential ideas of a nutty, dry red fruit are given. An elegant, almost theoretical exercise.
