Puni Arte Limited Edition N.4 is the fourth Limited Edition bottling from the Italian distillery, released in 2024. This single malt whisky has been produced from a mash of 100% malted and unpeated barley. It was fermented and distilled directly after a production cycle in which peated malt was used. It has been aged in Merlot barrels from a renowned South Tyrolean winery. South Tyrol is known for producing high-quality Merlot wines. The region’s unique terroir, combined with the winemakers’ expertise, produces high-quality grapes with a rich acidity and diverse flavors thanks to the warm and sunny climate.
Various levels well interacting, discreetly open. Some complexity is shown here. Main thread of candle smoke and light bacon, almost Highland Park style. Yellow and red fruit, very ripe peach, strawberry, grape for acidity, blackberry. A touch of butterscotch, which later turns into more sherried profile. Wine is very well managed.
Just a minor, short-lasting peaty note that gives complexity, with hints of salt. Slightly less complex than the nose, but with a well chosen ABV. Soft and warm, with salted caramel upfront.
Medium duration, with a gentle sensation of pleasant winey notes.
Puni Arte Limited Edition N.4 is one of the most complex of the releases of the Italian distillery, very pleasant especially on the nose, which is more than just the aging in ex-Merlot casks. The minor peaty notes add an extra layer of taste to a well balanced product.
