Dictador is a Colombian rum brand produced at Destilería Colombiana in Cartagena, where the Parra family blends the range as the third generation of the house's master blenders. Claro belongs to Dictador's 100 Months series: the rum is distilled in a continuous column still, aged for 100 months, a little over eight years, in ex-bourbon oak, and then charcoal-filtered to remove its colour while retaining the flavour drawn from the barrel. The result is a clear, barrel-aged rum positioned for cocktails as much as for sipping. It is bottled at 40% ABV, and in the European Union it is sold under the "spirit drink" designation rather than as rum.
Confection-like, with intense notes of vanilla and candied apricot. After a few moments in the glass, intense aromas of coffee beans and coffee liqueur.
The coffee-liqueur notes carry through, now accompanied by hints of wood spice. Orange peel.
Medium, with wood spice, vegetal shades and vanilla. Toasted.
Overall, the Dictador Claro 100 Months Aged develops well defined aromas. The flavor profile is not especially deep nor structured, but it is balanced.
